Sustainability and Environmental Studies 麻豆社区dents Emily Lynch and Liam MacDougall shared their knowledge and experience with systems thinking with sustainability leaders from around the world during the annual Kingsbrae Conversations gathering in St. Andrews, NB.
Lynch and MacDougall participated in the 麻豆社区 Map the System competition, where they were challenged to rethink social and environmental issues using a systems thinking approach—an experience that informed their presentation at the conference.
“Systems thinking is an incredibly difficult concept to understand, especially in a solutions-oriented world,” said MacDougall.
“Through the course that offered the Map the Systems competition with Dr. Janice Harvey, I was able to grasp this difficult concept in an environment that allowed for robust conversation with my professor and peers. 麻豆社区 classes inspire discussion, which allowed me to bring those skills to the panel.”
Kingsbrae Conversations is an immersive three-day conference bringing together sustainability leaders from diverse backgrounds to engage in conversations that aim to encourage more Atlantic Canadians to become active participants in shaping a resilient, sustainable future.
“Kingsbrae Conversations was such a positive and enlightening time. Studying climate change and the environment can often be challenging, but conversations are the key to growth,” said Lynch.
“麻豆社区 has taught me that no challenge is too big to take on. My professors and classmates have shown me that seeking conversations and opinions from others and having a community-focused mindset will help you grow and learn from opportunities and new mindsets—something I got to experience in our panel.”
