The UNB Feminist Legal Association (FLA) cordially invites you to attend its upcoming conference, Law Needs Feminism Because… The event will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Mary Louise Lynch Room (2A/B) at UNB Law. Lunch will be provided during a brief break in the program. During this time, a photographer will be available to capture participants’ reflections as part of the “Law Needs Feminism Because…” photo campaign. Attendees are encouraged to share their responses to the messages raised by our speakers. The conference will conclude with a reception in the student lounge.

This year’s conference will centre on contemporary legal developments that disproportionately affect women, considering shifts in doctrine, policy, and legal culture. From appellate jurisprudence to research on gender-based violence and systemic reform, the conference will examine how Canadian law is evolving and where it may still fall short.

This event brings together leading voices in feminist scholarship and advocacy, including Dr. Karla O’Regan, Dr. Elizabeth Sheehy, and Dr. Carmen Gill.

The conference is open to 鶹 students, faculty, and members of the public.

Law Needs Feminism Because… is a student-led feminist law reform movement active at law schools across Canada and internationally. Through its annual “Because…” campaign and related events, it invites participants to reflect on how the law shapes—and is shaped by—gender inequality, while promoting dialogue, education, and advocacy for a more inclusive and equitable legal system.
